The Design and Technology Curriculum

How does DT support our curriculum intent and Christian vision?

Design and technology is a practical and valuable subject. It enables children and young people to actively contribute to the creativity, culture, wealth and well-being of themselves, their community and their nation. It teaches how to take risks and so become more resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable. In this way DT prepare our children to live out their Christian Vision developing not only their own skills but also being able to impact on the local and global community.

How do we structure our DT curriculum?

Currently we cover all elements of the design and technology curriculum through a project approach. Some of these are directly related to the other curriculum areas such as history or geography. Sometimes they are stand alone to develop a particular skill.

DT in the Early Years

Children in the Early Years find out how things work by building new creations of their own. It is about taking things apart to see how they work and putting things together to create new ones. The children develop their creativity and problem solving skills whilst learning how to use tools and different materials.

Exemplifications in DT

Each term we review the outcomes for our DT topic. The documents below demonstrate the progression in skills that the children produce in our mixed age classes. We level these against the end of key stage expectations and assess the childrens progress towards these at the end of each unit.
