"Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity."

The PE curriculum

How does PE support  our curriculum intent and Christian Vision?

PE is central to our curriculum and is key in building children's confidence, resilience and self esteem whilst improving physical well being and overall health. We know that whilst there is a body of knowledge and skills to develop through our PE curriculum we believe that physical activitiy enhances a pupil's ability to think, focus and concentrate. It develops fundamental decision making, team work skills and develops resilence and determination to succeed.

How do we structure the curriculum in PE?

We use the expertise of our sports coach to support the professional development of our teachers and inspire the children. We use the strength of all the resources across the federation to ensure that the children get a full PE offer. So at Bishop Wilton the school has full use of the facilities at village hall, the Beswick children visit Middleton to take advantage of their school hall.In addition, we frequently get all three schools together so that we have a chance to play bigger team games. PE is delivered in curriculum blocks. Since there are mixed aged classes, careful assessment takes place to make sure that the children's progression in PE skills is secure.

PE in the Early Years

Every day our children get the chance to develop both their gross and fine motor inside and outside. We alwaya make sure that our youngest children get active through PE lesson and through their wider provision.

The Wider Curriculum in PE

There are so many fantastic walks in the area and with so much space around the village we often get the children out and exploring and making use of the great outdoors. Competitive sport is just as important to us and we exploit our federated status so that all children get a chance to take part in interschool sporting events. Although there would be too few children to form an individual school team, as a federation, the children have taken part in football, hockey tournaments and orienteering challenges.  They have run in cross country events and biathlons and even a bowling competition. As part of the Driffield Sport Partnership children get the chance to compete in a wide variety of different competitions and this can lead to higher level regional competitions.
